Why Nomenj?

Nomenjkultur! Located in the village of Nomenj along the Sava Bohinjka River in one of the last agricultural villages between Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj, our lavish, one hundred- and fifty-year old farmhouse chalet offers guests a memorable holiday experience throughout the year. The tranquillity of the cool mountain air with horses, cows, sheep, goats, as well as honey bees buzzing around the village will appeal to all those keen on escaping the heat and hassle of their daily lives. Upon request, we also provide our guests with eggs, honey, produce, milk products, fresh as well as smoked trout all produced by neighbours from the village.

The bucolic charm aside, Farmhouse Chalet Apartments is a matchless gateway for exhilarating alpine sports right outside the chalet. Less than 400 meters from the house flows the trophy section of the famous Sava Bohinjka River, one of the best fly-fishing-only trout streams in Europe. This means that enormous Rainbow and Brown trout, Grayling, and Danubian Salmon (Huchen) are less than a ten-minute walk from the front door. One can fish for trout and grayling from April until November and salmon from November until February.

During sweltering summer afternoons, moreover, the Sava can also serve as a heavenly swimming poor for our guests after long hikes along the river or bike rides up challenging mountain passes nearby. We can likewise provide our guests with kayaks, white-water rafts, or canoes depending on the season so that our guests can take them downstream from Lake Bohinj back down to the house.

The Bohinj valley is also a world-class biking venue. Situated at the bases of switchback passes that climb 1000 meters up to the Pokljuka plateau, Farmhouse Chalet Apartments is a gateway to exhilarating roads to which thousands of bikers from across the world flock. These are the same steep passes that inspired the careers of local world champions like Tadej Pogačar and Primož Roglič. Farmhouse Chalet Apartments can therefore house enthusiastic biking families or larger, professional groups to train for upcoming events. It can also serve as an ideal venue to triathlon athletes who can use the nearby lakes for training as well. Fingers crossed, Pogačar may whizz past you.

The village of Nomenj lies equidistance between Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj, and there are isolated bike paths along the nearby Sava Bohinjka River far away from the bustle of local highways. Therefore, families with small children can bike safely without worry to the lakes or to local restaurants. We can likewise make arrangements for the bike rentals running the gamut from gravel and road bikes to electric bikes that can whisk you and your family up nearby mountain passes with ease.

Our holiday house is only a 20 minute car or free ski bus ride away from Vogel Alpine Ski Resort, Slovenia’s premier ski centre. It is even closer to Kobla and Soriška Planina Ski Centers above nearby Bohinjska Bistrica, were one can also enjoy fine dining and wine après ski.

Getting to Nomenj by car or motorbike could not be easier. However, 250 meters from the house is a train station that makes connections to München, Graz, Trieste, or Vienna very convenient, which means that our guests can enjoy car-free vacations that leave smaller carbon traces on the environment. Our staff in Bohinj, moreover, can provide our guests with groceries together with eggs, cheese, trout, as well as baked good straight from the neighbor’s farms.
