The Pokljuka peninsula is an exclusive alpine paradise during all four seasons in the heart of Slovenia’s most prized national park, Triglav National Park. It is in Pokljuka where our guests can ascend the pride of Slovenia’s (and the former Yugoslavia’s) highest peaks, Triglav Planina, or the Three-Headed Mountain, along with smaller, surrounding peaks.
During winter, Pokljuka is an exclusive alpine paradise with a ski season that can last from late November until April. A ski-in chalet, our property at 1400 meters is surrounded by groomed as well as touring cross country trails. 200 meters from the chalet is also the Pokljuka Family Alpine Ski Center at Hotel Jelka and Sport Hotel Pokljuka where children can ski on beginner’s slopes while parents work out on adjacent cross-country skiing trails or snowshoe. In addition to ski rentals and lessons, the ski center also features restaurants and huts that serve gluhwein, drinks, pizza, as well as an assortment of savory Slovenian dishes.
Nearby Chalet Trzinka, the Rudno Polje International Biathlon Center is a world-class winter sports competition arena replete with biathlon facilities and hundreds of kilometers of cross-country ski paths (both groomed and back country) meandering through the majestic forests of Triglav National Park. Many of our guests train here during their visits. At Chalet Trzinka, we have proudly hosted national biathlon and ski teams from Switzerland, France, Croatia, Serbia, and Moldova as well as the families of these athletes.
Slovenia’s premiere alpine ski resort, Vogel Ski Resort, is only 17 kilometers away above Lake Bohinj, while the Soriška Planina Resort above Bohinjska Bistrica is only 8 kilometers away.
For our more adventurous athletes, our property can also serve as an ideal base for off-piste and telemarking adventures up surrounding peaks and skiing freefall down powdery descents back to the chalet.
Right outside of the chalet, there are also ample opportunities for sledding as well as sleigh and horseback riding.
During summers, the Pokljuka plateau often remains at temperatures ten degrees or more below urban centers in the region stretching from Belgrade, Rome, and Zagreb to Amsterdam, Budapest, and London. Whether during the lush green summer, the kaleidoscopic crisp fall, or thawing promise of spring, Chalet Trzinka can serve as a base for hikers and mountaineers eager to scale nearby peaks. Triglav National Park likewise offers mountain- and road-bikers world class roads and trails replete with muscle-burning ascents and exhilarating descents. Whether you are professional accustomed to quality road bikes or novice who wants an electric bike to whisk you up and down the mountain, we can reserve and deliver bikes directly to the property upon your arrival.
In addition to all of the roaming cattle that graze freely across the plateau, Triglav National Park is home to a variety of alpine fauna and wild animals. During the months of August and September, families can pick their fill of a variety of alpine mushrooms or wild berries right outside of the chalet. Nearby villagers also provide fresh milk, cheese, yogurt, as well as hand crafted beers and spirits. Moreover, nearby peaks feature alpine huts where families can hike up to enjoy savoury alpine food and spirits after long hikes. Right outside the chalet, furthermore, lies one of Europe’s most spectacular alpine peat bogs boasting a variety of alpine fauna and wild animals as well as educational trails.
